Proposed changes to network operations
Muutosehdotuksia verkon toimintaan

The network staff of B2IRC have been discussing several minor changes to network operations, concerning mostly technical settings. Many of these suggestions have come from the end users, so we would like to bring all of these suggestions to you - the users, in better hopes of delivering changes that would enhance the user experience.

We hope that our users could read through this page and offer their comments and ideas concerning the development of our network.

B2IRC-verkon ylläpitäjät ovat keskustelleet useista, pääosin teknisistä muutoksista verkon toimintaan. Koska monet ehdotuksista ovat tulleet verkon käyttäjiltä, haluamme tuoda nämä kootut ideat kaikkien käyttäjien nähtäville. Toiveenamme on parantaa B2IRC:n toimivuutta loppukäyttäjiä kohtaan.

Toivomme, että käyttäjät voisivat lukea tämän sivun läpi ja kertoa omia kommenttejaan ja ideoitaan verkkomme kehitystä varten.

Simple modifications

• Gradually change old Project B2 logos to match the new "Säätöyhteisö B2 ry" logos on the website, charter and other applicable areas
• Make similar modifications to any leftover text entries with the old format, including MOTD's
• new official written form of network name: B2IRC (current: B²IRC)
• possibly change to new logo, or use both the old and new ones

Yksinkertaiset muutokset

• Vaihdetaan nykyiset Project B2 -logot uusiksi Säätöyhteisö B2 ry logoiksi vähitellen  esimerkiksi kotisivuilla ja verkon toimintaperiaatteissa (charter)
• Vastaavanlaiset muutokset jäljelle jääneisiin Project B2 teksti-ilmaisuihin, myös palvelimien MOTD-viestit
• Uusi kirjoitusmuoto verkon nimelle: B2IRC (nyk. B²IRC)
• Uuden logon mahdollinen käyttöönotto, tai vanha ja uusi rinnakkain

Policy changes

• Define our primary user group to match operative guidelines of Säätöyhteisö B2 ry (Tuning Community B2, formerly known as Project B2)
  • most notably, define our primary usergroup goal from anime/manga to "open mindedness and cultural diversity", which covers the current group as well
• make required changes to charter and website, approve charter via guidelines defined on page 3 of the current charter

Muutokset toimintaperiaatteisiin

• Määritellään verkon pääasialliset kohderyhmät Säätöyhteisö B2 ry:n toimintaperiaatteiden mukaisesti
  • huomattavimpana muutoksena pääasiallinen kohderyhmä nykyisestä anime/mangasta avoinmielisyyteen ja kulttuuridiversiteettiin, joka kattaa myös nykyisen ryhmän
• Tarpeelliset muutokset verkon toimintaperiaatteisiin (charter), uusien toimintaperiaatteiden vahvistus nykyisten sääntöjen mukaan (charter, sivu 3)

Technical changes (please comment)

• Allow longer nicknames? What is a suitable limit? 20 characters has been suggested (current: 15)
  • NOTE! too long nicknames can affect negatively on the functionality of some IRC client programs
• Allow more channels per user? 25 and 30 have been suggested (current: 20)

Tekniset muutokset (kommentteja toivotaan)

• Sallitaanko pidemmät nicknamet? Mikä on sopiva maksimipituus? Ehdotettu 20 merkkiä (nykyinen: 15)
  • HUOM! liian pitkät nimet haittaavat joidenkin IRC-asiakasohjelmien toimintaa
• Sallitaanko enemmän samanaikaisia kanavia per käyttäjä? Ehdotettu 25 tai 30 kanavaa (nykyinen: 20)

Web user interface alterations (please comment)

• Study possibility and potential goals of having finnish as an alternate supported language, in addition to english, reflecting the primary spoken language of the user majority
  • as most finns handle basic english, perhaps this is not needed or could be limited to the most commonly needed areas for new users, ie. WWW.IRC

Web-käyttöliittymä (kommentteja toivotaan erityisesti suomalaisilta)

• Olisiko suomen kielen tukemisesta sivuilla hyötyä? Verkon käyttäjistä suurin osa on kuitenkin suomalaisia
  • toisaalta, suomalaiset osaavat perusenglannin aika hyvin, ehkäpä tätä ei tarvita, tai se voitaisiin rajata vain ensikertalaiskäyttäjien eniten tarvitsemiin toimintoihin, eli lähinnä WWW.IRC

Technical status (please comment)

• Our quick study suggests that the technical quality of the network is good and no further servers or upgrades to the current ones are required
• IPV6 has been suggested, but is there any real need right now?

Verkon tekninen tila (kommentteja toivotaan)

• Pikainen tutkimus osoittaa, että verkon tekninen laatu on hyvä eikä lisää palvelimia, tai parannuksia nykyisiin tarvita
• IPV6-tukea on ehdotettu, mutta onko sille oikeaa tarvetta?
